The Dalles, OR - February 26, 2024 - The Dalles Area Chamber of Commerce (TDAC) and North Wasco County School District (NWCSD) are proud to reveal an extra special poster to represent this Year’s Cherry Festival Celebration.
This year, the opportunity to design the iconic poster was given to students at The Dalles High School as part of the school’s Advanced Graphics program. The initiative to involve students in designing the Cherry Festival Poster was presented to the Chamber this year by TDHS’s Career and Technical Education Graphics Teacher, Leah Ferguson.
After a rigorous competition, TDHS Sophomore Ahyoung Kim emerged as the winner with a stunning design that captures the essence of this year’s theme, Cherries on Broadway.
This collaboration not only showcases the exceptional talent of our young artists but also strengthens the bond between our community schools, Area Chamber, and larger community. "We are thrilled to have had the opportunity to partner with our High School students in this year’s design," said Lisa Farquharson, President of The Dalles Area Chamber of Commerce. "The creativity and skill demonstrated by Ahyoung Kim and all participating students have truly enriched the tradition of the Cherry Festival."
The winning poster design will be officially unveiled during The Distinguished Citizen's Banquet on Thursday, February 29th.
"All of the students did such a great job with their designs. I was thrilled for Ahyoung when her submission was selected! It is rare for one of our underclassmen to have their designs chosen when we have these collaborative community opportunities, and the experience she's receiving is invaluable” Stated Ferguson, “I appreciate the Chamber's willingness to partner with us. Providing real-world opportunities is important in helping students build real-world success in their futures."
