Instrument Selection and Obtaining Instruments

Students who are unsure of what instrument to play, can arrange a time to meet with Mrs. Wilson during the first week of school.  In an effort to achieve a balanced instrumentation, students may be asked to consider other instrument options.

All instruments, care kits, books, reeds, and percussion needs are rented/purchased by the school district and TDMS. Students and families will still be responsible for the use and care of the instrument.

If you desire a better quality instrument than what's provided by the school and district, families are welcome to rent your own instrument through Beacock Music. Generally, renting an instrument starts around $17.00 a month (saxophones, baritones, and horns are generally more expensive). Click on the Rental Instructions guide for step-by-step instructions to renting from Beacock Music. Ask Mr. Kelly if you need help.

Recommended Instrument Brands

Below is a list of recommended instrument brands if you are looking to own an instrument. When purchasing a used instrument, make sure to examine it for any cracks, leaks or broken pieces. If you are unsure about the quality of the instrument, consider taking it to a reputable repair program (such as Beacock Music) or myself to be examined further.

If students cannot afford to purchase a new instrument, but would like to improve the quality of their instrument, they can consider upgrading their mouthpiece, head joint, ligature and/or reed for much less cost. (Please email Mr. Kelly for further recommendations.)
