Student Transfer Information
Non-Resident Transfer Information
Please note: Oregon school districts may only transfer students within Oregon. The request for nonresident admission form must be completely filled out and submitted no later than March 31st of each year. By May 1st, North Wasco County School District shall provide written notification of admission of a nonresident student into the district and students requesting to be released to another School District. Transportation to and from the attending school is the responsibility of the parent/guardian.
About Our Process:
North Wasco County School District is allowed to consider students whose legal residence is not within North Wasco County SD's boundaries but who would like to attend, or, students whose legal residence is within our district boundaries but would like to attend another Oregon school district.
North Wasco County School District Board of Directors, at their February 22nd, 2024 School Board Meeting, approved for the 2024-2025 school year:
- Consent for up to 30 additional nonresident students to attend school in North Wasco County School District, and
- Consent for up to 30 additional resident students to be released to attend school in another school district in Oregon.
North Wasco County School District may enroll nonresident students as follows:
- Inter-district Transfer Agreement: By written consent of the affected school boards or designees, the student becomes a "resident pupil" of the attending district thereby allowing the attending district to receive State School Fund moneys;
- Tuition Paying Student: By admitting a nonresident student with tuition whereby neither affected districts are eligible for State School Fund moneys;
- Court Placement: If a juvenile court determines it is in the student's best interest, a student placed in a substitute care program outside the district may continue to be considered a resident student and allowed to attend the last school the student attended prior to placement. The public agency placing the student in a substitute care program will be responsible for the transportation of the student, if public agency funds are available.
The Board shall deny regular school admission to nonresident students who are under expulsion from another district for a weapons policy violation. The Board or designee may, based on district criteria, deny admission to nonresident students who are under expulsion from another district for reasons other than a weapons policy violation.
Transfer requests for returning or new students are not guaranteed. The School Board or designee reserves the right to accept/reject nonresident students based upon the availability of space, resources, personnel and appropriate programs. If the number of students seeking consent exceeds the number of spaces, the Board or designee will use an equitable lottery selection process.
For all approved transfer requests (to attend NWCSD or to be released from NWCSD), transportation to & from the enrolled school is the responsibility of the parent/guardian.
Important Information for sports competition/practice for high school students (9th - 12th grade):
To be eligible to participate in any high school athletic program and competition while attending NWCSD, a separate nonresident request must be submitted and approved by OSAA, prior to the first day of the sport’s program.
