What is a School Site Council (SSC)?
The primary purpose of the School Site Council is to work in collaboration with North Wasco County School District and school staff toward the improvement of student performance and the educational goals set by the district’s strategic plan.
Who serves on the SSC?
The School Site Council is made up of an equal number of both parents/guardians and staff members. The parent community elects the parent members, and the staff elects staff members. Parents or guardians must have a student currently attending the school.
What does SSC do?
The SSC assists and provides input/feedback in the following areas:
- The development of plans to improve the professional growth of the district’s staff;
- The improvement of the school’s instructional program;
- The development and coordination of plans for the implementation of programs at the school in accordance with Oregon’s Educational Act for the 21st Century;
- The administration of grants-in-aid for the professional development of teachers and classified employees;
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Board.
All recommendations developed by a SSC shall be in alignment with the district’s mission and vision statements, strategic plan, and Board-adopted goals. The SCC, shall not interfere with the duties, responsibilities, and rights of duly elected school district boards.
What is the time commitment to participate in the SSC?
The SSC will meet approximately 4 - 6 times during the school year and meetings will last approximately 60 - 90 minutes. Members of the SSC will serve a term of two or three years and may be re-elected to serve again.
