High School Summer SOAR
 
Summer SOAR is high school courses taught with more hands-on and project based lessons. The program is focused on providing support for unfinished learning for students and has three big goals:
    • Foster joyful learning 
    • Support unfinished skill development 
    • Create a road to graduation
The curriculum includes:
    • Literacy for grades 9-12 (English courses), World History/ Cultures/ Geography, US History, Physics, Chemistry, PE, Health 1 and 2, Art, and Math (fit to students level)
    • All courses are built to retrieve or accrue credit towards graduation
    • Hands-on project-based learning.
 
  • This program is offered at no cost to families.
  • Class sizes are projected to be about 15 students.
  • Classes will be in the west wing and basement of the high school (A/C portion of school)
  • Breakfast and lunch will be provided for all participating students.
  • Transportation will be provided in the morning and after lunch.
  • Transportation routes will be communicated mid-June on district website and on ParentSquare
  • Accommodations will be made for students who experience disabilities
 

When is Summer SOAR?

  • June 26th - July 25th
  • Classes will be held Mondays - Thursdays
    • There will not be classes on Fridays.
    • No classes on July 4th. 
  • 8:00am-12:00pm 
The students in current grades 9-12 who will be invited to participate in Summer SOAR are:
    • Students who fall below grade level in credits
    • Students who want to strengthen skills to improve learning and gain more access
    • Students who need more support and resources for more success in high school
School counselors will be reviewing lists of eligible students and reaching out to families starting Monday, May 13. If you believe that your student meets the criteria listed above, and you want them enrolled, you may enroll students starting May 13. Please reach out to your student's counselor if you have any questions..

K-8 Summer RISE
 

What is Summer RISE?

  • Summer Rise is a supplemental academic summer program for current Kindergarten through 8th grade students. The program is focused on providing support for students and has three big goals:
    • Academic enrichment
    • Youth development
    • Equitable access and family partnerships
  • The curriculum includes:
    • Targeted literacy instruction, including foundational skills for reading, comprehension strategies, and fluency work;
    • Math instruction focused on skill building and mathematical mindset development; and
    • Hands-on project-based STEAM learning.
  • Class sizes are projected to be about 15 students.
  • Breakfast and lunch will be provided for all participating students.
  • Transportation will be provided in the morning and after lunch.
  • The program is offered at no cost to families.

Who attends Summer RISE?

  • Current North Wasco County School District students who have completed grades Kindergarten through 8th grade.
  • Students who can commit to attending every day, except in the case of illness.  
  • Accommodations will be made for students who experience disabilities.
  • Preference will be given to students:
    • Who may need additional support to reach grade-level expectations in reading and/or math
    • Who receive English Language Development services
    • Who are the siblings of the students who meet the above criteria

Jump Start Kindergarten

 

The Jump Start Kindergarten program is tailored to equip young learners with essential school routines, social-emotional skills, and foundational academic knowledge. By participating in this enriching program, students will gain confidence and readiness for a successful start to their academic careers.

  

Families interested in enrolling their child in the Jump Start Kindergarten program are encouraged to enroll online

  • Dates: July 30th to August 14th, 2024

  • Time: 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM

  • Location: Colonel Wright Elementary

  • Services Provided: Breakfast and lunch will be provided, and transportation options are available.
